Welcome to Columbia University!

The New Student Orientation Program (NSOP) is quickly approaching, and we are so excited to welcome you to campus and support you in your transition! The NSOP Staff and Committee have been working all summer to make sure your first moments at Columbia are filled with opportunities to connect, engage, and have fun.

NSOP will be a great introduction to the many wonderful experiences that await you as a Columbia student. We can’t wait for you to join us as we “Reach New Heights Together” during NSOP and the years to come!

The perks of Columbia’s location in New York City should not be underestimated! One of the best things about Columbia is its proximity to so many fantastic, unique, world-class opportunities.

NSOP Guidebook App

Get the NSOP schedule on your smartphone with the FREE Guidebook app! Once you have it downloaded, search for "Columbia University Orientation 2014." We highly recommend familiarizing yourself with all of the functions and adding all of the mandatory events to your phone’s calendar.

Housing Guidebook App

You can also download the Columbia Housing Guidebook to get the scoop on check-in procedures, campus services, and next steps once you’re settled in. Download the app and search for "Columbia University Check In 2014."

Shuttles to Bed Bath & Beyond

Forgot a fan? Don’t have any hangers? Use the free shuttle bus to Bed Bath & Beyond on Tuesday to buy any household goods, bedding, bathroom accessories, or electronics that you need. Plus, students get a discount with their Columbia University ID! See the NSOP schedule for times.

Parking Near Campus

For those moving to campus, there will be temporary unloading areas close to the residence halls. After unloading, you may park at nearby garage. These fill up quickly, so see Columbia's Directions & Parking page and NYC.gov for alternatives.

Spanish and French Placement Exam

If you previously studied Spanish or French and wish to continue your studies of either language while at Columbia, you should take an online placement exam. Note that the exam may be taken only once. Follow the link below (password is roaree1). It will take no more than 20 -25 minutes to complete.

Advising Dean Assignments

You should have received an email from the CSA with the name of your advising dean. You'll meet your advising dean at one of the many events planned for TVC students at NSOP and will have opportunities after classes start to schedule an advising appointment.
