Countdown to Columbia: Family Orientation and Preparing for Your Move

Dear Columbia families,

It’s almost here! Move-in for the Class of 2017 is upon us. Undoubtedly, this is a time of mixed emotions for you and your family. On one hand, you are excited to celebrate the beginning of your son or daughter’s transition to young adulthood and the start of her/his college career. On the other hand, your family is about to experience a time of change, which is not always easy. Parent and Family Programs is here for you — as a resource, to answer your questions, and to ensure that your time as a Columbia family is memorable, engaging, and exciting.

Your student recently received a email from Columbia Student Affairs with lots of detailed information about his/her upcoming move to campus and the New Student Orientation Program (NSOP). This is a great time for you, as a family, to discuss your expectations about keeping in touch throughout move-in process and the college years.

I also encourage you to connect with as many different Columbians as possible — including faculty members, staff, students, alumni, and other families. Make the most of your time on campus, and stay connected to us through social media and visits to Morningside Heights. We’ll be posting pictures daily on Facebook and Twitter using the #ColumbiaFamily hashtag and encourage you share your own photos and stories!

To help you plan for your upcoming travels, please read the important information that follows. As always, please contact Parent and Family Programs with any questions. Our Family Orientation schedule is available online for your review. If you have not already done so, please confirm your participation by registering yourself and all your guests in advance.

I wish you all safe travels and I can’t wait to greet you on campus in the coming week!

Sincerely,

Matthew PatashnickEventbrite - Columbia University Family Orientation 2013
